Phaius Tancarvilleae
Greater Swamp-orchid, Swamp Lily, Nun's Orchid
The Nun's Orchid is listed as endangered. It can be found in India, New Guinea, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. It's species name was given by Joseph Banks to honour Lady Emma Colebrooke, Countess of Tankerville (1752-1836) who grew the orchid in her greenhouse near London during the late 1700's. It's habitat is swampy grassland or swampy forest.
